Why does my gas pedal resist, as if it is stuck, at times?

when I have not touched it for a minute or so, such as at a red light, a lot of the time my gas pedal will resist when I try to push it, as if it is stuck…I have to push harder, and then it will give, but I don’t like having to bare down on my gas pedal like that….causing my car to jump…..should I take it to a mechanic, or is it something I could easily fix myself?

You have looked down there to see if a mat is in the way I take it.
Maybe spray some WD40 on the moving parts down there.
Have your boyfriend get down there and investigate.
Then if all else fails, take to a mechanic.
