Options for Tattoo Ink Removal

The use of tattoos can be traced back as early 5000 years ago. Its purposes evolve with time, ranging from passage rights, indication of rank and status, to serving as protection or amulets. Now, the tattoo has become more of a fashion statement, and as with any fad, you may sometimes feel like changing the look of your existing tattoo. Nowadays there are various options for tattoo ink removal which are categorized into two.

These are the laser and pre-laser methods. Both have their own pros and cons, although the major difference is the cost and the intensity of pain it involves.

The pre-laser is also referred to as the traditional technique. The process is generally painful and excruciating while the cost is less expensive compared to laser methods.  Below are the pre-laser methods.

• Dermabrasion or the removal of the top layer skin using salt friction
• Excision or skin grafting wherein the skin is surgically removed and replaced with skin taken from another part of the body.
• Saline solution

On the other hand, laser methods are less painful but significantly costly. There are only two commonly used laser processes.

• Laser removal
• Intense Pulse Light Therapy or IPL

All of these options involve risks in which the degree depends on the procedure you choose. The risks can be stretched from burned skin, severe scarring, skin discoloration and allergies.

It is recommended to research and weigh properly the pros and cons of each procedure before choosing the type tattoo ink removal method you wish to undergo. Also, it helps to be aware of the possible complications and risks.

What do they use, the inks stuff, to make tattoo?

Sorry, that isn’t really clear, but I thought if it was salt/vinegar & drawing ink. I could do my own & Mamma couldn’t say “zip” about it.

I wouldn’t try it, mainly because of the possibility of infection. But if you are determined, you really need to go watch how it is done.
If you can find a shop that is not swamped with customers, you could go and ask questions. Tell them, it’s for a report at school.
I’ll bet their egos will click up a knotch or two because of your interest.
