I mean AJ is pretty close to premium hands, why ain’t it a good hand?

As Mick said, unless you flop 2 pair, there’s always a danger that you are up against an ace-better kicker.

It’s a good hand, so in a good position, you should raise with it preflop, but what do you do if you get re-raised? If you are re-raised, are you up against a pair? Or against a better ace? It’s hard to say, and if the flop shows an ace and your opponent bets out (or raises you if he’s in position), what do you do?

If you have AK and you pair your ace (or king), you can feel pretty safe. Even with AQ, there’s only one hand that beats you. But with AJ, it’s progressively more risky.

I personally loathe the hand, but I won’t deny that’s a decent, yet dangerous, one.
